Living in SoCo

If you are interested in living in Austin, Texas then ask your Austin real estate agent about the community of SoCo.  SoCo, or the neighborhood of South Congress Avenue, was until a few years ago, a rather seedy area of city.  Today, it is revitalized and offers many exciting advantages for its residents.   The skyline of Downtown Austin and the capitol building are easy to see from SoCo and an easy commute for its residents.

South Congress Avenue is full of funky shops, exciting restaurants and cafes and apartments, condos and lofts.  The SoCo neighborhood is located between the Austin neighborhoods of Travis Heights and Bouldin Creek.  As with many Austin neighborhoods, SoCo has its own neighborhood grocery store that caters to the needs of its residents.  In the southern and western areas of SoCo, there is a large Mexican influence and you can find many outstanding Mexican grocery stores, restaurants and bakeries. The popular Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail is within walking distance of parts of SoCo.  The Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail is maintained by the city of Austin.  It offers a large variety of outdoor activities including many playing fields, hiking and biking paths and water activities.  It is a good place to go individually or with an entire family.

Like many neighborhoods in Austin, SoCo has its own special neighborhood events.  One popular event is called “First Thursday” and occurs, appropriately enough, on the first Thursday of every month.  On First Thursdays, shops stay open until 10 pm and various activities are held throughout the neighborhood.
